St. Patrick’s Day is celebrated on March 17th; this is the religious feast day and the anniversary of Saint Patrick’s death in the fifth century. The Irish have observed this day as a religious holiday for over a thousand years. On the day, Irish families traditionally attend church in the morning and celebrate in the afternoon. Lenten prohibitions against the consumption of meat were waived and people would dance, drink, and feast on the traditional meal of Irish bacon and cabbage.
Here are some quick St. Patricks day facts:
- According to the 2003 Census, there are three four million people with Irish ancestory.
- It is said that there are ten thousand three leaf clovers for every “lucky” four leaf clover.
- According to Guiness book of world records, the highest number of leaves found on a clover is fourteen.
