Former student, Sannie Anderson, graduated from Hesperia High School in 2009. During her high school career, Sannie was involved in many sports and received an assortment of academic honors. She had many friends and was close to many of her teachers.
However, graduating wasn’t easy for Sannie. She states, “At first, I was really sad and a little scared because I knew I would never be with the same people again, and none of my classmates would ever be all together again.” After a while, Sannie became more optimistic, saying that as time went on, she would at least cross paths with her high school classmates… just not as often.
Sannie’s advice for future graduates it to take school seriously. “Yes, have fun because it is part of your youth, but if you do not discipline yourself now, then you will never be able to discipline yourself in the future.” She reminds us to start planning ahead and to start thinking about our futures. She adds, “College life is way better than high school, so don’t think that your fun ends after graduating.”
Nowadays, Sannie is attending Trine University (formerly known as Tri-State University). After changing her major twice, she has finally decided on majoring in elementary education, as well as getting a degree in math. She is minoring in Spanish, but also looking into interior design. Her degree will take four years, but after that, she plans on furthering her education in graduate school.
According to Sannie, college life isn’t all that different. Nonetheless, there are some changes that she has to adapt to. “I have to make a lot of decisions on my own now, so weighing all of the best possibilities and outcomes is more demanding than it was before. This is just another step to becoming an adult.”
Trine University is approximately four hours away, which makes driving back to Hesperia a hassle. Sannie misses Hesperia, but not enough to come back every weekend; She usually only returns home during her breaks. “Part of the reason I do not come back that much is why I came here—to meet new people and get different experiences. Coming back is always nice, but getting away is what shapes me.”
Looking back, Sannie would like to thank all the teachers at Hesperia High School for making a difference in the futures of “Panther” graduates.
